IQALUIT
NorthwesTel Inc. has upgraded its network in Iqaluit, to provide faster data speeds for smart phones and better call quality.

The telecommunications company upgraded the local network to Evolution-Data Optimized (EVDO), a wireless standard that separates voice and data onto different channels, an Oct. 26 news release said.

"The upgrade will vastly improve the quality of cellular service in Iqaluit," vice president of consumer and small business Curtis Shaw said.

The upgrade will not require changes to handsets and all CDMA handsets will continue to work on the new network.
