INUVIK
Small Business Week was celebrated across the country last week, including an event hosted by the GNWT.

Each year, between Oct. 16 and 22, the achievements of entrepreneurs and small businesses are celebrated.

To mark small business week, the GNWT's Department

of Industry Tourism and Investment invited Inuvik residents to a presentation last Wednesday on the business funding programs offered in the territory.

"Through programs like the Support for Entrepreneurs and

Economic Development (SEED) Policy, and organizations such as the Community Futures Development Corporations and the NWT

Business Development and Investment Corporation, the GNWT supports small businesses in the NWT and is committed to helping them succeed," the department said in a news release, which called small- and medium-sized businesses "the backbone of the Canadian economy."

These businesses make up more than 95 per cent of businesses across the country and employ almost half of the Canadian labour force, the department added.
