Money to start work on the GN-owned fuel tank farm in Cambridge Bay is part of the 2012-13 capital plan as $4.5 million is allocated for the project, stated Nunavut Finance Minister Keith Peterson at the legislature on Oct. 18.

Details of its size and when it would be moved are still undecided, but the hamlet agreed with the territorial government it be moved from its current location inside the community to its outskirts.

Cambridge Bay Mayor Syd Glawson said there are close to a dozen tanks part of the farm.

"We would like to see that tank farm moved out of the middle town and that's all we know," he said.

"They can't make it any smaller because we need all the fuel they can put into a tank farm every year. We're growing. We're going to need more so it's got to be at least the size of the one in town, maybe bigger."

The fuel tank farm contains diesel, jet fuel and gasoline.
