RANKIN INLET
Nunami Stantec Ltd. has become the latest company to join forces with the Sakku Development Corp.

The partnership, which will see Stantec provide engineering and environmental consulting services to Sakku clients throughout Nunavut, was officially announced earlier this month.

Sakku Investments is the business arm of the Kivalliq Inuit Association.

Sakku president and CEO Patrick Tagoona said Nunami Stantec, previously operated as Nunami Jacques Whitford, offers clients an expanded range of services, such as mine planning and engineering design; municipal, transportation and buildings engineering; surveying and geomatics, waste management, hazardous materials assessment; environmental surveys and impact assessment, archaeology and heritage resource assessment; and contaminated site assessment and remediation services.

He said the deal will allow Sakku to provide a wider range of services to its clients, support its other partners, and provide additional opportunities for Inuit in the Kivalliq and across Nunavut.

"Stantec recently purchased FSC Architects and Engineers," said Tagoona.

"So, now we also have FSC's long history in the Arctic specializing in cold climate and remote location projects.

"This addition brings one of the leading Northern consulting firms into the Nunami Stantec partnership.

"With the activity we see in the mining sector, we look upon Stantec as a great partner in providing Northern mining solutions and having that capability is, obviously, very exciting for us."

Tagoona said Sakku is doing some consulting for Areva Resources Canada Inc., and is also doing some work with Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd.

But, he said, the advantage of having a partnership with a company such as Stantec extends well beyond mining.

"There are projects going on, or about to begin, in communities, David Clark such as reclamation and municipal engineering projects, and this partnership gives us the capability to be involved.

"Stantec has an Iqaluit office and we're in the process of constructing our new office building in downtown Rankin Inlet.

"So, we're going to have further discussions on what we could actually have based in Rankin to increase our profile in the region.

"Our relationship with Stantec has been ongoing for some time, and it's been a very positive one, so it's quite exciting for us to have formalized a unanimous shareholders agreement with them as we move forward."
