EDMONTON, ALTA
The Conference Board of Canada held its Canada's North and Beyond forum last week.

Speakers at the three-day event in Edmonton included former prime minister Paul Martin, Iqaluit Mayor Madeleine Redfern, and Premier of the Northwest Territories Floyd Roland.

Five major challenges facing the North were discussed at the conference, including governance, resource development, community security, infrastructure and human capital.

"Canada's North is at an important crossroads," president and CEO of the board Anne Golden said. "Whether in terms of adapting to climate change, addressing major infrastructure needs, or developing effective economic and social development policies."

The event was hosted by the board's Centre for the North, which aims toward sustainable prosperity across the three territories.
