IQALUIT
The City of Iqaluit and its 125 unionized employees reached a two-year tentative agreement on Sept. 30.

The agreement, if ratified, means the city's unionized employees will receive a 2.5 per cent wage increase for each year of the agreement, which covers the period from Jan. 1, 2011 to Dec. 31, 2012.

"On behalf of council, I would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the bargaining committees who were guided by the desire to ensure the citizens of Iqaluit are well served," stated Mayor Madeleine Redfern in a press release.

City workers had been without a contract since this past Jan. 1.

"We feel confident that it is a package the membership will favour," stated chief administrative officer John Hussey.
