Little Warriors is a national charitable organization which aims at educating adults on the sexual abuse of children.

Its program, Stewards of Children Training Program, provides prevention tools and resources, and also prepares adults with the correct responses and actions to abuse, should they be confided in by victims.

The sessions, geared for adults only, will be three hours long and include ways to recognize signs of abuse, how to help protect children from threatening situations and provide local resource information.

Executive director Laurie Szymanski says the sessions are very interactive and include a video with various segments.

Participants will also be using workbooks to help facilitate discussions. "The sessions are for any adult with any interaction with children," Szymanski said, "included but not limited to parents, educators and counsellors."

Little Warriors has been North once before, hosting three sessions in Iqaluit last month.

"We go where people ask us, where there is a need for this kind of training," Szymanski said.

Little Warriors has been sponsored in its Northern visits by Nunastar Properties, an Edmonton-based real estate company that owns properties in Iqaluit as well as the Explorer Hotel in Yellowknife.

Nunastar will be covering all expenses for the sessions, including participant costs. Nunastar is a supporter of Little Warriors locally in Alberta, a reason why the business was chosen to sponsor the Northern sessions.

Being business owners in the North for more than 30 years, Nunastar has started a Fund for Northern Children program.

"It (Little Warriors) is a really great opportunity for us to bring resources North." said Kristen Scott, assistant to Nunastar's owners.

The stewards of Children Training Program will be held at the Explorer Hotel. Spaces are limited and registration is requested through the Little Warriors website.
