Floyd Bradley Dick, 34, has been in custody since his Aug. 31 arrest. On Tuesday, Dick sat in the prisoner's detention box as Crown prosecutor Jean-Benoit Deschamps told territorial court judge Christine Gagnon the charge, assault causing bodily harm, was being treated summarily, meaning a lesser punishment than an indictable offence if the accused is convicted.

After hearing this, Dick's lawyer, Hugh Latimer, was granted an adjournment until today to give him more time to advise his client on how to proceed - either by entering a plea to the charge or to request a bail hearing.

On Aug. 26 at around 4 p.m., the Yellowknife RCMP were called to the front of the post office where a young man had been assaulted. A subsequent RCMP press release issued on Aug. 29 indicated the complainant had been robbed of cash; however, that charge has since been dropped.

The complainant, taken from the scene on a spine board and loaded into an ambulance by emergency personnel, was first treated at Stanton Territorial Hospital and then medevaced to Edmonton for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

He has since been released from hospital.

After Tuesday's court appearance, Dick called out to the media as he was being placed in the back of a police van taking him to the North Slave Correctional Centre.

"Just print the right information, eh guys," he said. "Don't print bullshit."
