Tim Hortons has confirmed it is opening a coffee shop with no drive-thru in downtown Yellowknife in the spring of 2012, according to a statement from the company on Thursday.

However, the exact location of the new downtown store is still not known.

One rumour is that it will be going in 106-5102 50 Ave - the space in the Scotia Centre on Franklin Avenue and 51 Street where the For Women Only clothing store is currently located.

When asked on Thursday if her store was moving to another location in the Scotia Centre, Vicki Tompkins, owner of For Women Only, said "possibly" but that she couldn't confirm it.

She added the property's owner has not asked her to move locations. With respect to the rumour that the new Tim Hortons was moving into her space, she said she didn't know.

"I don't know any more information about it than what you put in the paper (Aug. 31). They're still negotiating as far as I can understand. There might be some changes coming, but you really have to talk to Dundee (the company responsible for managing and leasing space at the Scotia Centre)."

A call to Dundee Realty Management Corporation requesting to speak with a representative was not returned Thursday.

Tompkins would not say when her lease expires.

The rumour of a new Tim Hortons coffee shop opening in the downtown area began earlier in the week with an online job posting on Jobs North for 12 full-time counter staff for day, evening and afternoon shifts for a downtown location.

The first Tim Hortons opened in Canada in Hamilton in 1964.

There are more than 3,000 Tim Hortons in Canada and 600 in the U.S., according to the company's website. The first Tim Hortons in Yellowknife opened in 1991 on Old Airport Road.

Greg Barton, the owner of the Old Airport Road Tim Hortons franchise, could not be reached for comment.
