"It got washed down the beach and along the beach where it crumpled," Qaapik said.
"This is probably the highest we've ever experienced it here. They were reaching over to areas we haven't seen them reach before."
He said he was able to move his boat and qamutik behind his house across the road from the beach.
Other lumber on the beach was washed away by the waves.
A light-pole erected by Nunavut Power Corp. was affected by the waves, which shifted the pole and took away some of the gravel supporting it.
