NUNAVUT
The Baffin Regional Chamber of Commerce has received $100,000 from the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency (CanNor), toward Nunavut Trade Show and Conference sessions and industry sector workshops in select Baffin communities.

The funding "will help strengthen and improve capacity in the Nunavut business community," the department said in a Sept. 21 news release.

"By delivering workshops that are geared to the needs of Northern communities, businesses will be better positioned to take advantage of economic development opportunities in the region," CanNor Minister Leona Aglukkaq said.

Business leaders, government officials and industry representatives will take part in the chamber's conferences at this year's trade show taking place Sept. 27 to 29, and are to discuss how Nunavummiut can capitalize on the projected growth in the resource sector, according to CanNor.

The majority of the funding will go toward the industry workshops in various communities, which will focus on the mining, fishing, tourism and arts and culture industries.
