NUNAVUT
A charge of first-degree murder against an Iqaluit man was reduced to manslaughter in the Nunavut Court of Justice on Friday.

Jimmy Nowdlak, 27, is in jail awaiting his arraignment, scheduled for Oct. 3.

The charge relates to the death of a 57-year-old woman who was badly injured during a sexual assault in Iqaluit in September 2008. She died a year later.

Justice Earl D. Johnson found that the attack likely led to the woman's death but the assailant did not intend to kill the victim.
