A delayed medical report is holding up the sentencing of a Yellowknife man who pleaded guilty last week to assaulting a man in front of the post office on Aug. 26.

Floyd Bradley Dick, 34, pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily harm but not guilty to another charge of possession of a stolen camera valued at less than $5,000 on Sept. 9.

On Sept. 13, Dick's lawyer, Hugh Latimer, asked for and was granted an adjournment by Judge Robert Gorin because the medical report describing the victim's injuries still hadn't arrived from Edmonton.

Latimer said he is also waiting for additional information from the Crown's office on the possession of stolen property charge before setting a trial date. Both matters are scheduled to be spoken to in territorial court on Sept. 20 at 1:30 p.m.

Dick has been kept in jail since his Aug. 31 arrest for the assault at around 4 p.m. in front of the post office. The incident left another man bloodied.

Following the Aug. 26 assault, the victim was first taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital in an ambulance and then medevaced to Edmonton for treatment for non-life threatening injuries. The victim has been released from the hospital.

The Crown's office is treating the charges summarily, meaning a lesser punishment than indictable offences upon conviction.
