MITTIMATALIK/POND INLET
Three years after going missing, the remains of a Pond Inlet man were found 3.6 kilometres southeast of the hamlet on Aug. 21.

Human remains were spotted by two men travelling on the land that Sunday. The next day, an RCMP press release stated the coroner had identified the remains as those of Boazie Idlout.

At press time, it wasn't known how the coroner was able to identify Idlout in such a short period of time. It was also not known how long the body had been at the spot it was found.

Calls to Padma Suramala, Nunavut's acting chief coroner, were not returned by press time.

Idlout, 48, was last seen at his home on the morning of Thursday, July 10, 2008. His vehicle was later spotted parked at his workplace.

An extensive 11-day aerial and ground search by the RCMP and residents turned up nothing. At the time, RCMP Staff Sgt. Charlie Gauthier described Idlout's disappearance as a "bit of a mystery."

RCMP Const. Ian Allen said Aug. 22 foul play was not suspected in the man's death.
