K'ATLODEECHE/HAY RIVER RESERVE
A baptism ceremony on the shore of Great Slave Lake was held on Aug. 6 as part of an eight-day gospel camp meeting on the Hay River Reserve.

Four women – two from the NWT and two from Alberta – were baptized in the water off a sandy beach, just east of the reserve's Old Village.

Alec Sunrise, a former chief of K'atlodeeche First Nation and an evangelist, said the baptism was a highlight of the non-denominational gathering.

The gospel camp meeting brought together about 60 Christians, including 30 participants from several other NWT communities, Nunavut, Alberta and B.C.
