Bear roams downtown

A black bear was spotted in a residential neighbourhood near Bison Hill Apartments on 52 Street on Thursday morning.

Peter Hanlon, who works for Northern Property REIT, said he did not see the bear himself, but was at a nearby construction site when it roamed past.

"Workers say the bear went around the back of the building, and headed towards Tin Can Hill," he said.

RCMP spokesperson Const. Kathy Law confirmed there was a bear in the area, and Hanlon did see the police response.

"There were about eight RCMP officers that showed up with rifles - it was quite the show," he said.
