Sex assault charge at Yellowknife motel Tim Edwards Northern News Services Published Monday, July 18, 2011
Const. Kathy Law did not reveal the location of the motel, saying RCMP do not normally give out the names of businesses under these sorts of circumstances. "We don't want to detract business from there," said Law. She did say, however, that the alleged assault took place on the motel's exterior staircase. The male suspect and the woman involved were known to each other but not in a relationship, Law added. A press release issued Friday stated the woman, 55, was attempting to fight off the man when police arrived, after hearing what sounded like a woman in distress. The man was held at scene by the police until an RCMP cruiser arrived to take him to the detachment. The woman was taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital where she was treated and then released. Law said there were no physical injuries. Charges had not yet been laid against the man. He remained in custody and was scheduled to appear in front of a justice of the peace in Yellowknife on Friday.
