SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - "Pinky" is the nickname of the pink Superior Propane truck seen around town which has been turning some heads.

With its flashy, pink colour, it is not your typical fuel truck but is one of four Superior Propane trucks in Canada raising money and awareness for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.

The truck rolled into town on June 16.

"One third of a cent for every litre delivered by the pink truck in a region to a maximum donation of $6,000, is donated to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation," said Carrie Power, market administrator for Superior Propane.

The Northwest Territories is part of the prairie region with Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The day Pinky rolled off the assembly line, Superior Propane also gave $10,000 to the foundation.

Edie Dul, field operations manager for the Yellowknife business location, said it was time Pink came North.

"It hasn't ever been up in the territories and we decided it had to come up," said Dul.

Through servicing all of the prairie region, Pinky is in high demand.

"Pinky is only hear for a short time. She is heading back to Alberta on Sunday. There is only one truck for the prairie region," said Power.

Superior Propane's motivation for the pink truck is to improve the community and raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

"Superior Propane has three objectives with the pink trucks. To improve the lives and community of where custumers and employees reside, to demonstrate to customers that those who support Superior Propane are also helping to create a future without breast cancer, and to strengthen our partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation by displaying the pink truck at various events," said Power.

Superior Propane has had some different reactions from people around town seeing the truck for the first time. "Some people have been taking pictures,"said Power.

As of January 31, 2011, nationally, Superior Propane has raised $72,500 since 2009 for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. The pink trucks have been on the road since 2009.
