Prince William of Wales and Princess Catherine Middleton are expected to make a visit to the territorial capital as part of their royal tour of Canada June 30 to July 8, which will see them visiting seven cities in nine days.

Their first public event will be on Parliament Hill in Ottawa for Canada Day, and it is also confirmed they will be on hand for the opening celebrations of the Calgary Stampede.

Details of what will comprise their visit here won't be made available until shortly before they arrive, due to scheduling changes and security concerns, but officials promise the public will get lots of chances to catch a glimpse of the pair.

"The crowds will be large, enthusiastic," James Moore, minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, said in a conference call with media Monday.

"This is their first visit and it won't be their last."

Although the total amount of money their visit will cost Canadians won't be made available until after their tour, Moore said it will be significantly less than the Queen's visit last summer, which cost approximately $2 million.

He credited this to the fact they will be attending events instead of hosting their own, so the main costs will be security-related.

The couple will be accompanied by 85 members of the British press every stop along the way. In comparison, 18 British journalists accompanied the Queen on her visit to Canada last year.

The newlyweds and their entourage will also be visiting Montreal, Quebec City, and both Charlottetown and Summerside in P.E.I.
