SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted on her way home from a downtown Yellowknife bar early Friday morning, according to RCMP.

Police are currently investigating a complaint of a sexual assault that occurred near 50A Avenue and 54th Street between 12:30 a.m. and 1 a.m.

Const. Kathy Law said the male suspect is described as being of Inuit descent, approximately 5' 6" around 25 to 30 years old, with a moustache, goatee and wearing a black hoodie and black jeans or track pants.

Law said the woman left a bar on the corner of 51 Avenue and 50 Street, where the male suspect was reported to have been before she left. He may have been opening the door to the premises and letting people enter, she said. Law wouldn't disclose the name of the establishment.

"We are just asking for the public's help. If anybody happens to see him in this area, somebody matching that description, to please contact us," said Law.

Management at Raven Pub, located in the area, told News/North Friday that they had not heard of the incident or had been contacted by the police about it.

Police are asking that anyone with information regarding this matter to contact the Yellowknife RCMP or Crimestoppers.
