SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - RCMP arrested a Deline male Thursday after he allegedly slashed the back of another man around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in Deline, according to Cst. Kirk Hughes.

"It seemed to be a blade weapon. It was sharp and would cause a laceration. The victim sustained a laceration to his back. It required about 15 stitches to close," he said.

The victim was brought to the Deline nursing station by a local resident who had discovered the victim. The RCMP was advised of the incident after the victim was transported to the nursing station. The victim received medical treatment and was released.

"The victim is being monitored by the nursing station. He was released within about four or five hours after being treated by the nurses," said Hughes.

"He's still within the community, he's being monitored by the nurses on a daily basis mostly to check his dressings and to prevent infection."

Police believe alcohol is a factor in the incident.

The arrested man was released from RCMP custody but is being monitored as the investigation continues.
