The special elder's breakfast was organized by hamlet council as part of the week's official Pakallak Tyme celebrations.
Coun. Jackson Lindell said it's extremely important to hold special events for the elders during community celebrations. He said there's times when some elders think the hamlet forgets them when planning activities, and that's a perception he wants to see come to an end. "We have a bunch of councillors, myself included, who feel we have to look at providing activities for elders so we have an opportunity to meet and talk with them in a positive atmosphere, and they have a chance to recognize our faces and get to know who we are," said Lindell. "It's a way to start discussing what types of recreational needs they might have and what we can do, as a council, to meet those needs." Lindell said he was happy with the number of elders who came out for the breakfast, which he hopes becomes an annual event. He said elders should expect the hamlet to hold these types of special activities more frequently. "I see events like this becoming more popular over time and more elders coming out to participate. "It was fun to take the time to serve at the breakfast and talk to the elders. "It was a way for us to show our appreciation, especially to those elders who give us quite a bit of guidance and some direction. "It was nice to show we appreciate what they do." Lindell said every councillor who was in town on the day of the breakfast helped out at the event. He said everyone was comfortable in the atmosphere the breakfast created at the community hall and enjoyed taking part. "Many of the elders still have pretty good appetites, and they were very appreciative and thankful for the event being held. "I look forward, hopefully, to holding more events like this in the near future."
