TTHENAAGO/NAHANNI BUTTE - Three days of activities marked the change from winter to spring for residents of Nahanni Butte.

The Nahanni Butte Winter Carnival took place from March 25 to 27. During the opening ceremony on Friday afternoon, Chief Fred Tesou said the purpose of the carnival was in part to celebrate the good winter the community had.

After listening to drum songs and prayers, many participants at the ceremony stayed in the gym for a spirited handgames session that followed. Other events that afternoon included boardgames, a game of broomball and a spaghetti supper.

A selection of traditional games including snow snake, log chopping and axe throwing – all led by Jerry Antoine on Sunday afternoon – also proved to be popular. Residents took advantage of the warm spring weather to both watch and participate in the games.
