IGLULIGARJUK/CHESTERFIELD INLET - A general purpose access road from Chesterfield Inlet to Josephine Lake, roughly 35 km southwest of the hamlet, is one step closer to a reality.

The community is in the application and licensing process with the Nunavut Impact Review Board, Department of Fisheries and Oceans and Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, for the Josephine Lake Access Road Project, which would be used for access

to hunting, fishing, tourism and potential quarry zones.

Chesterfield Inlet economic development officer David Kattegatsiak said the road is important for the hamlet construction will use local labour and co-ordinate with local businesses. "Of course, we are focused on creating economic opportunities for the community," said Kattegatsiak.

"The goal is to link Chesterfield Inlet to resources on the land that will be fundamental to traditional activities including hunting or fishing, employment opportunities and developing potential economic opportunities for our remote community."

In addition to the application process, the hamlet will also have archeologists study the area to ensure it will not conflict with any archeological sites.
