TIKIRARJUAQ/WHALE COVE - The Kivalliq Mine Training Society will be paying its first visit to Whale Cove next month.

On Feb. 2, representatives from the society will address community residents, council and high school students about the opportunities available in the mining sector.

Eloise Noble, Whale Cove's economic development officer, said the community hopes training will lead to more residents of the 388-person hamlet gaining employment at Agnico-Eagle's Meadowbank gold mine near Baker Lake.

"And then eventually at the Meliadine project," said Noble of the other Agnico-Eagle project north of Rankin Inlet. Three Whale Cove residents currently work at Meadowbank, she added.
