HAY RIVER - Hay River's Brendan Green is making noise on the international biathlon circuit.

At the midway point of the International Biathlon Union World Cup competition, Green, who represented the NWT and Canada at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, has garnered 98 points, surpassing his point total for all of last season when he had 77 points.

According to a press release from the NWT Biathlon Association, Green has excelled on the skiing side of the sport from year to year, but this year has shown improvement in his shooting.

Stats from last season show Green to be the fastest skier on the Canadian team and this year has improved his overall World Cup ranking through "near perfect results on the range", the press release stated.

His highest point this season was a 14th place finish at the World Cup event in Oberhof, Germany, followed by a 25th place finish in a Mass Start event - his first ever.

So far this season, Green has five top 30 finishes in 11 individual events.

Green will close out the season by leading the youthful NWT Biathlon Team at the Canadian Championships.
