SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A 23-year-old Yellowknife man was killed in a single snowmobile collision on Taylor Road at 3 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to the RCMP, all attempts to resuscitate the man on the scene were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced dead at Stanton Territorial Hospital.

The family has requested that the name of the deceased not be released.

Const. Kathy Law said the man was out with a friend, but was alone at the time of the collision.

"The other person was quite a ways behind him and wasn't with him at the time when it happened," she said.

No foul play is suspected at this time.

The Yellowknife RCMP detachment is assisting the NWT Coroner's Office with the investigation, according to a press release issued Monday.

This isn't the first snowmobile accident to take a life in or around Yellowknife this year.

In April a 63-year-old Yellowknife man died in a snowmobile collision while riding 16 kilometres north of Long Lake.
