RANKIN INLET - A Kivalliq Air charter slid off of the runway while landing in Rankin Inlet around 9 p.m. on Oct. 28.

The two crew members aboard the plane were unharmed. There were no passengers on the flight.

The Beech 1900-C aircraft was inbound from Iglulik when it landed on runway 13 (landing towards the ocean) in strong crosswinds, with gusts hitting upwards of 25 knots.

The plane veered right, slid about six-ten meters off of the runway and struck a snow bank.

The plane received damage to its right-hand propeller, and about six runway lights were destroyed in the mishap.

Although the runway was officially closed for four hours, due to the time of the incident, no other flights, inbound or outbound, were affected.
