Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. voted unanimously to remove its president from office, as he contravened the corporation's code of conduct during his suspension, stated the organization in a press release. The dismissal is effective immediately, stated NTI.

Paul Kaludjak was suspended with pay for 60 days starting Aug. 30 for misuse of the corporate credit card after racking up nearly $52,000 in what NTI determined to be questionable charges.

First vice-president James Eeteelook had been acting as president while Kaludjak was serving his suspension, which was due to end Oct. 30, and will continue until a byelection is held Dec. 13.

The person elected will fill the remainder of Kaludjak's term, set to expire in December 2012.

The resolution to dismiss Kaludjak voted on during NTI's Annual General Meeting in Rankin Inlet states he was let go as Kaludjak placed his own interest ahead of NTI's, failed "to act honestly and loyally to NTI" and failed to conduct himself to maintain the trust and confidence of the Inuit.
