Fortune halts permit process for NICO

WHATI/LAC LA MARTRE - Fortune Minerals, the company advancing the NICO base metals project near Whati, is temporarily putting the brakes to the project's permitting process as it awaits a Supreme Court decision related to the project.

In late September, after consultation with community chiefs, the Tlicho government filed a motion asking the Supreme Court to overturn the Mackenzie Valley Environmental Impact Review Board (MVEIRB)'s decision to continue with the NICO's environmental assessment, made despite objections from the government.

When the Tlicho government filed its motion, Fortune was ready to submit its developer's assessment report to the review board.

"We have voluntarily refrained from submitting the DAR for a few months so that the Tlicho can work this out," said Robin Goad, president and CEO of Fortune Minerals. "We still have to go through an environmental assessment process no matter what happens."
