RANKIN INLET - Abraham Nakoolak of Rankin Inlet has been charged with manslaughter following a violent death in that community this past weekend.

D.J. (Donald James) Gamble, 23, of Rankin Inlet was pronounced dead at the Kivalliq Regional Health Centre during the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 14.

Gamble had reportedly been stabbed several times following an altercation that began at a party at a nine-plex building in Area 5.

Gamble was found outside a building at about 2:30 a.m. after police and ambulance crews responded to an emergency call, and was immediately transported to the health centre.

The 23-year-old succumbed to his wounds while health centre staff were trying to stabilize him.

Rankin RCMP Sgt. Louis Jenvenne would not release any further information on the case, including the age of the man charged.

Jenvenne stated all information regarding the case would be issued by RCMP in Iqaluit, and refused to comment further, as the matter is still under investigation.
