KANGIQLINIQ/RANKIN INLET - The community of Rankin Inlet is in mourning following a violent death on Saturday.

D.J. Gamble, 23, of Rankin Inlet was pronounced dead at the Kivalliq Regional Health Centre during the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 14.

Gamble had reportedly been stabbed numerous times following an altercation that began at a party at a nine-plex building in Area 5.

Ambulance attendants found Gamble outside on the ground after responding to an emergency call and immediately transported him to the health centre.

The 23-year-old succumbed to his wounds while health centre staff were trying to stabilize him.

Rankin RCMP Sgt. Louis Jenvenne would neither confirm nor deny whether Gamble's body was sent to Winnipeg for an autopsy.

Jenvenne stated all information regarding the case would be issued by RCMP in Iqaluit, and refused to comment further on the death, as the matter is still under investigation.
