Originally from Fort Good Hope, April has lived in Yellowknife for five years while Beverly is employed as a home care support worker in Norman Wells.

"It was weird," said April, describing how it felt being in the one-year program with her mother.

"But like a happy weird."

April said her inspiration was her grandfather, who was a community health representative for 35 years in Fort Good Hope.

She said she pursued the personal support program because she likes taking care of people.

"My mom worked in that area so it interest me," said April. "Plus I was raised in an elderly environment."

She said it was helpful having her mother in the same program not only for working on assignments but also to help look after her four kids.

April plans to continue her education in social work but doesn't know where yet.

Beverly only joined the program in the second semester of the class because she had already completed the first semester courses.

She was happy to be in a learning environment with her daughter.

"It was my dream that we would finish together," said Beverly.
