INUVIK - You have a few drinks and you get the munchies. But patrons at the Mad Trapper don't have the option of ordering eats. That is until now.

Since Saturday night the popular watering hole has been offering a full slate of bar fare.

Owner Rick Adams said the idea occurred to him a few months ago and ever since he's been working to make it a reality.

"A lot of people at 2 a.m. have got the growlies and want to get a hamburger before they go home," he said, admitting he's usually one of them.

He approached local long-time cook Jason Franzen who agreed to run the one man show.

"He's a really good cook and he knows how to hustle," said Adams about Franzen. "He knows his way around the kitchen."

The canteen will be open Thursday to Saturday from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The menu will boast everything from mozza sticks and wings to hamburgers and fish and chips. Customers can also purchase food outside through the bar's kitchen window.

Adams said sales were good on Saturday, adding the food service is part of a larger plan to make the bar into more of a lounge setting. He said he will set up four or five new TVs next month to host special events such as Ultimate Fighting Championships or World Cup nights.

Franzen said he's looking forward to keeping things fired up in the kitchen.

"It will be fun to see where it goes," he said.

In fact, he's hoping to start his own catering company.

Lucy Thrasher said she thinks the extra bar service is a great idea.

"Everybody wants something to eat when they leave the bar. It's great," she said.
