NUNAVUT - A group from Inuksuk High School took what Grade 11 student Lauren Nevin described as an "amazing" trip to Egypt from March 30 to April 13.

Nevin and 17 of her fellow classmates in Grades 10-12 along with teacher chaperons Craig MacGregor and Samantha McDermott plus a parent chaperon took in some of the country's most famous attractions. The group visited 26 sites including The Pyramids, the Temple of Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, where past pharaohs are buried.

MacGregor said McDermott, who teaches French at the school, spearheaded the trip to help bring French culture to the students outside the classroom.

"This is not your typical France, Belgium or Switzerland," said MacGregor. He said Egypt is actually a member of the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie.

Nevin said she enjoyed the entire trip but mentioned she really liked riding camels along the banks of the Nile River.

Students began funding for the trip in June 2009.
