DEH GAH GOT'IE KOE/FORT PROVIDENCE - The search for a missing teenager from Deline concluded Tuesday when his frozen body was located.

A search team found Anthony Menacho's remains on a snowmobile trail approximately three kilometres outside Fort Providence at around 5 p..m. Menacho, 19, was first reported missing to the Fort Providence RCMP detachment on Saturday by his family, who were visiting the community.

On Friday Menacho was in high spirits after winning the adult singing category at the Deh Cho Bison Jamboree's talent show. Menacho sang one song on the stage before returning later to sing a song that he'd written himself.

The RCMP has determined that Menacho was drinking with friends on Friday night after his winning performance, according to Sgt. Wayne Norris, media relations officer with RCMP G division.

Menacho wasn't from the hamlet so it would have been easy for him to become disoriented in the dark, Norris said.

"It's a time of year when it still gets cold at night," he said.

The exact cause of death hasn't been determined but foul play isn't suspected, Norris said. The RCMP is now assisting the Northwest Territories Coroner's Office with the case.

The search for Menacho began on Sunday. A helicopter was used to conduct an aerial search around the community. On Monday a trained RCMP search manager from Yellowknife came to the hamlet.

An initial search was done that day and as more people became involved on Tuesday a thorough sweep was done of the community and expanded outwards, said Norris.

Approximately 100 people participated in the effort including approximately 40 people who came from Deline and Tulita to help.
