SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A Fort Smith man pleaded guilty to a number of charges in relation to an incident last February in which he stabbed a woman in the neck during a break and enter.

On March 2 in Yellowknife, Paul Egotak, 19, pleaded guilty to break and enter and committing aggravated assault, wearing a mask with the intent to commit an indictable offence and carrying a knife for the purpose of committing an offence. A charge of attempted murder will be withdrawn by Crown prosecutor Terri Nguyen when Egotak is sentenced on April 27.

The crown will ask for a sentence of six years in prison for the three charges.

At approximately 4 a.m. on Feb. 14 Egotak entered a Field Street home and attacked a 58-year-old woman living alone, leaving her with serious injuries.

A pre-sentence report is being completed prior to the sentencing hearing which will be held in Fort Smith.
