IQALUIT - RCMP have charged Annie Tikivik with arson causing property damage in relation to a fire at a shack on Feb. 19.

RCMP and fire officials were called to the shack near the library and visitor's centre at 11:30 p.m.

Richard Doucet, 32, and Tikivik, 19, occupants of the shack, were taken to the Qikiqtani Regional Hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.

"The individuals were in and out of there for unknown reasons," said Sgt. Jimmy Akavak, RCMP media relations officer. The investigation is ongoing.

Tikivik will appear in court April 23.
