LIIDLII KUE/FORT SIMPSON - A 21-year-old man has been charged in relation to an assault on a 13-year-old girl.

The man was arrested on Nov. 29 and faces charges of sexual assault and sexual interference.

Police were called to the Fort Simpson health centre at 1 a.m. on Nov. 28 where the victim provided an audio statement and evidence to police of an incident that occurred on the night of Friday, Nov. 27 at a residence in the village.

"Attempts were made that night to find him that night which were unsuccessful ... He was arrested on Nov. 29," said RCMP Const. Blaine Rawles.

The police officer said he couldn't comment on the status of the victim's injuries.

The man was in custody until he appeared in territorial court in Yellowknife on Dec. 3 for a bail hearing.

His next court appearance will be Jan. 5, 2010 in Fort Simpson.
