SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - A 22-year-old man was robbed of $200 and left unconscious in a Range Lake apartment building after he refused to give two visitors money, according to police.

The RCMP said two people have been charged in the Dec. 9 incident, which happened between 9 p.m. and midnight in the hallway outside the man's apartment.

"They were in his apartment, they wanted to borrow money. He felt uncomfortable and tried to leave," said Sgt. Geoff Greenwood.

He said the man was heading to his neighbour's place to call the police when two individuals grabbed him. The man's wallet, which contained $200, was stolen. The victim told police he was unconscious but didn't know for how long.

"He was taken to hospital with some facial injuries, examined and released," said Greenwood.

Police are hoping to speak with a person who may have assisted the victim. A 37-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman are facing robbery charges. Greenwood said the investigation is ongoing and more charges could be laid.

He said police do not suspect anyone else was involved in the robbery.
