A number of citizens were honoured with awards, including the women who woke sleeping residents of a burning trailer in October and members of the Fort Smith Volunteer Fire Department.

The celebration was jointly presented by the Town of Fort Smith, Western Arctic MP Dennis Bevington, and Thebacha MLA and territorial cabinet minister Michael Miltenberger.

The event featured chili and bannock, along the traditional dancers and the choir from Joseph Burr Tyrrell (JBT) School.
