Murder trial location to be reviewed

NUNAVUT - A decision on whether to hold a first degree murder trial for Chris Bishop in Iqaluit or Cambridge Bay is expected in March, according to a release from the Nunavut Court of Justice.

The matter will be discussed in Cambridge Bay in the morning of March 22.

Bishop is charged in the shooting deaths of three Cambridge Bay men in 2007.

He is also charged with the attempted murder of two other individuals injured in the incident.

Cambridge Bay Mayor Syd Glawson said he believes the trial should take place within the community.

"If they have it elsewhere it would be a slight on the residents of Cambridge Bay," said Glawson.

"If the prosecution and defence are on the ball, then they should be able to pick out 12 unbiased and honest jurors no matter where they are."
