SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - The main landing gear of an Adlair Air plane carrying two passengers from Taloyoak collapsed early Thursday morning while landing at the Yellowknife airport.

A press release issued by the Department of Transportation said the front landing gear of the twin turboprop King Air plane collapsed upon landing at 7:15 Thursday morning.

The release stated the Yellowknife Airport Fire Department responded and determined there was no immediate risk of further damage. The two passengers and two crew members aboard were not injured.

Both runways at the airport were closed immediately after the incident, and the main runway reopened at 8:15 a.m.

The plane was raised off the tarmac by Age Automotives using large air bags. The main gear was pinned and the aircraft was taken to the Adlair Air hangar. Paul Laserich, owner of Adlair Air, said engineers were looking at the plane to determine what caused the gear to collapse, but could not give any more information because the investigation is ongoing.

The secondary runway the plane had used was reopened at 9:06 a.m. after a check was completed. No flight arrivals or departures were affected by the incident.
