SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - There will be plenty of names to choose from when Yellowknife voters go to the polls Oct. 19.

Seventeen people will run for eight city council seats, 12 will vie for the seven-person Yk Education District No. 1 school board, and nine have submitted their names to run as trustees for Yellowknife Catholic Schools.

Not even Mayor Gord Van Tighem will go unchallenged.

The three-term and twice- acclaimed mayor will face two challengers for the city's top job: John Westergreen and Bryan Sutherland, both of whom filed their nominations on the deadline date, Sept. 14.

Two of above mentioned nominees are listed as candidates for two different positions.

Aside from seeking the mayorship, Westergreen is also a candidate for Yk No.1, and Francis Chang is running for both city council and the Catholic school board.
