SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - If you're thinking about making a run for office during next month's municipal election you have until 3 p.m. today to file your nomination papers at city hall.

A number of positions are up for grabs, including mayor, city council and school board trustee for Yk Education District No. 1 and Yellowknife Catholic Schools.

As of Friday afternoon, there are 13 names entered for city council: Bob Brooks, Jeffery Corradetti, John Dalton, Paul Falvo, Mark Heyck, Tara Kearsey, Amanda Mallon, David McCann, Shelagh Montgomery, Rick Poltaruk, David Prichard, Cory Vanthuyne, and David Wind.

Seven have signed up for Yk1: Joe Acorn, Terry Brookes, Mira Hall, Blake Lyons, Allan Shortt, Mildred Wilke, and Jay Butler. And seven as well for the Catholic school board: Jennifer Debogorski, Gerda Hazenberg, Rose-Marie Jackson, Barb McDonald, Marta Simek de Jorge, Lee Stroman, and Mary Vane.

Gord Van Tighem, so far, is the only one entered for the mayor's job. If no other nominations come in, Van Tighem will be automatically declared mayor for a fourth term, and acclaimed for the third time in a row.

The vote is scheduled for Oct. 19.
