At approximately 1:30 a.m. RCMP responded to a call of a pickup truck that rolled over near the Bottle Shop Recycling Depot on Old Airport Road. The vehicle was heading northbound on Old Airport Road toward the Yellowknife airport.

RCMP Const. Stephanie Ward said the female occupant was pronounced dead on the scene and next of kin were notified.

RCMP arrested the second occupant of the vehicle, a 20-year-old male resident of Yellowknife, later in the morning. A press release stated that he will remain in custody pending further investigation.

"The other individual we are looking for can complete the picture," Ward said prior to the arrest.

Brian Kelln, program manager for the department of community services, confirmed the rolled vehicle was a City of Yellowknife truck stolen last evening.

Ward would not give any detail as to how police know there was a second occupant in the vehicle. Speed, alcohol involvement, and whether the occupants were wearing seatbelts is unknown at this time. A collision analyst spent the early morning hours determining the details of the accident, closing off a section of Old Airport Road until about 9 a.m. The RCMP's major crimes unit is taking over the file.

"Once more information comes to light we will be issuing a press release with more detail available," Ward said.
