SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - Two Lethbridge, Alta., men are facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking after Yellowknife RCMP seized two pounds of marijuana on Wednesday, July 8.

The street value of the marijuana, according to the RCMP, is $17,000 and equals approximately 896 grams.

"That's a good amount of drugs to keep off the streets of Yellowknife," said RCMP Const. Kathy Law.

The names of the men, aged 21 and 22, have not yet been released since the charges against them are still pending.

"It was just outside of Yellowknife city limits," Law said of the location of the seizure.

She would not elaborate on details of how RCMP were informed of the marijuana making its way to Yellowknife.

A press release from police stated "Yellowknife RCMP acted on information that led to the arrest of two Lethbridge, Alberta males."

Involved in the seizure was the Yellowknife RCMP, Crime Reduction Unit, 'G' division Traffic Services and Drug Section as well as Organized Crime and Gang Unit.

The two suspects have been released on a promise to appear and are scheduled to be in territorial court on Aug. 25.
