SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - Beginning this week and ending next week, NWT News/North will be publishing a list of NWT businesses and organizations which have received grants or contributions from the GNWT's Department of Tourism, Industry and Investment (ITI) during the 2008-2009 fiscal year.

Since 2006, ITI has made these figures available in its annual "Grants and Contributions" report. These figures were culled from that report.

As of Sept. 2, 2008, ITI consolidated two of its mainstay funding programs - the Business Development Fund and Grants to Small Businesses - under the Support for Entrepreneurs and Economic Development Program, or SEED.

When SEED was launched in the middle of the fiscal year, ITI still had a number of applications under the Business Development Fund and Grants to Small Businesses; those applications were processed but "as of the new fiscal year, 2009-2010, there is only SEED," said spokesperson Dragana Beronja.

This list documents the businesses that received funding under the Business Development Fund during the 2008-2009 fiscal year.

Next week's list will outline recipients under SEED.
