In territorial court on Tuesday, Judge Bernadette Schmaltz scheduled a preliminary inquiry for Oct. 21 and 23. Kudlak is being held in custody. Middle of the road, drunk and fined A woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday to care and control of a motor vehicle while intoxicated. On May 15, the 30-year-old woman was spotted by police in a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road at a stop sign in Ndilo, said Crown prosecutor Glen Boyd. He said an RCMP officer approached the vehicle and the driver rolled down the window. "The officer immediately noticed an odour of liquor," Boyd said. He said two passengers exited the vehicle and left the scene. The woman failed a breathalyzer test and was arrested. "I feel really bad for what happened ... I learned my lesson. It's actually a big eye opener for me," said the woman, who had no previous criminal record. "You're lucky you got stopped before something worse happened," said Judge Bernadette Schmaltz. "If you drink any amount, don't drive." The woman was fined $1,200 and prohibited from driving for one year. Hair-puller must pay A woman who pleaded guilty to assault after she pulled the hair of her ex-husband's new girlfriend was given a $600 fine in territorial court on Tuesday. On May 3, the woman's ex-husband was picking up his son at the woman's house in Yellowknife, while accompanied by his new girlfriend. According to Crown prosecutor Glen Boyd, the woman got into an altercation with the girlfriend and reached through a window of a vehicle and pulled the victim's hair. "This is certainly no way for adults to resolve a conflict," said Boyd. He also noted the three-year-old child was present during the incident. The woman, 32, has no previous criminal record and apologized immediately after the assault, said defence lawyer Nikolaus Homberg. "She apologizes to the court and to her community," said Homberg. "I certainly recognize these situations can be stressful, but especially in the presence of a child, you have to treat them with maturity," said Judge Bernadette Schmaltz. The woman was fined $600 plus a surcharge of $90.
