SOMBA K'E/YELLOWKNIFE - The human remains found last month have been identified, but RCMP are still not releasing the name of the person found.

The identification was confirmed to police on Tuesday through the medical examiner in Edmonton. Police stated in a press release that the identity will not be released to the public until a full report has been received from the examiner.

RCMP Const. Kathy Law said police are hoping to have received the report by today or early next week.

"There were two sets of remains that were sent out (for identification)," she said. "They want to ensure it's all from the same person."

She confirmed that the family of the one individual who has been identified have been notified. Asked if those remains belong to Phil McNeil, a 25-year-old Yellowknife man who has been missing since Oct. 3, 2008, Law declined to comment.

The remains were first discovered early on Friday, April 17 after police received a tip. Law confirmed the body was found "in the Con Mine area."
